Day 2: Taipei, Taiwan

Saturday, December 24, 2011

The two of us headed to Taipei Main Station to browse around. Jinha found this amazing restaurant named Shrimp City. It’s all you can eat. You order six dishes each time and it includes drinks and ice cream. The choices were limitless and everything we tried was really over the top. After I got over the initial ‘trying to be neat and clean’ thing, I enjoyed every bite.

We ate shrimp and crab in a ginger sauce, two kinds of curry shrimp, scallops, cod, shells cooked in soju, tomato shrimp, salt and pepper shrimp, wasabi shrimp, calamari, some kind of delicious pancake, au gratin shrimp and a shrimp salad all for $499NT or about $20 each. It was well worth it and I think we stuffed ourselves for about three hours.

Next, we headed over to Taipei 101. It boasts being the second tallest building in the world at 449 meters high. There’s also a ton of shopping around that area, which we checked out.

Finally, we hunted down a lesbian bar called Taboo after asking numerous lesbian-looking types and a few taxi rides. There was a Christmas special going on and since I wore white I paid $400NT and Jinha paid $500NT. We thought that was just the cover charge but it turned out it was all you could drink as long as you didn’t lose your cup. We made a few friends and stayed at their table and danced a bit, too. Around 3:30 we headed back to our hotel.
